Specialisms

In order to remain inclusive to the breadth of theatrical forms that exist in our thriving independent scene, the 10 performance minimum requirement is waived for some types of theatre.

We allow a minimum of three performances for any of the following specialist production types:

IDEA – for Immersive, Devised, Experiential or Atypical performances (formerly the TBC Award)

Performance Piece – where the story is from the life of the lead performer – often a solo show

Opera – staged productions where sung music is the primary vehicle for storytelling, including contemporary, classical, chamber, or experimental works

TYA – theatre for young audiences (there are 3 categories here: for ages 0-5 / 5-11 / 11+)

Cabaret – variety (which usually includes two or more from: burlesque, magic, drag, circus or musical comedy) or songbook cabaret productions.
