About the Offies

What are the Offies? The Offies (Off West End Theatre Awards) recognise and celebrate excellence in independent, alternative, and fringe theatre across London and beyond. Our goal is to elevate visibility, increase recognition, and support the vibrancy of the UK’s independent theatre sector.
Who runs the Offies? The Offies are operated by OffWestEnd, a not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting and championing independent theatres, artists, and creatives.
What is new in the 2025 awards structure? The Offies have adopted a more dynamic model for 2025, with eight Areas of Exceptional Contribution replacing traditional genre-based categories. These are: Performance, Staging, Production, Design, Music, Creation, Inclusion, and Innovation.

For Producers, Venues & Creatives

How does a show become eligible for an Offie? Shows become eligible when a participating venue registers them for assessment, or when a producer or artist requests inclusion and the show meets our eligibility criteria (location, run length, ticketing). A team member may also independently nominate shows based on visibility and impact.
How are shows assessed? Each show is reviewed by two trained volunteer Assessors who attend performances in person and submit a structured written report. These reports are reviewed by a Super Assessor who may recommend the production or individuals for Offie recognition.
What is an "Assessors' Choice" badge? This badge is given when both Assessors independently agree that a show or element of it demonstrates exceptional quality. It’s designed to offer immediate recognition and marketing value for productions.
How are nominations decided? Super Assessors review Assessors’ reports and determine nominations based on excellence within one or more of the Areas of Exceptional Contribution. Nominations are made public periodically throughout the year.
When are winners announced? Winners are announced at the annual Offies Awards Ceremony, typically held in early spring. Some special awards may be announced in advance.
How can we use an Offie badge or nomination in marketing? Venues and producers are encouraged to include Offies badges, nominations, or wins in all publicity. High-resolution assets are available on request. Proper attribution and accurate use are essential.
Can a show receive more than one nomination? Yes. Shows often receive nominations across multiple Areas (e.g. Design and Performance). Recognition is not limited by category.
How do I invite an assessor to see a show? Most venues already have arrangements in place with OffWestEnd. If you're new to the system, contact us via our website to arrange registration and scheduling.
Do assessors pay for tickets? No. Participating productions provide complimentary press-style tickets for assessors. These tickets should be treated with the same courtesy as other professional invites.
